Payton on being one of the least injured teams in the NFL

Control: Sean Payton
Variable: Organization

The Saints have had injury issues for a very long time and it's always an excuse. Sean has been in 2 different spots, and the injury results don't match each other. We don't know what conversations went on behind closed doors, etc, but it's hard to argue against the results in Denver 2 years in a row.
Also, what comes to mind is the misdiagnoses of players and Sean expecting them to be back on the field based on the diagnoses of the doctor, only to find that the injury is way worse than what they thought 3 months ago. This is stuff that sews mistrust with players and makes difficult your ability to attract free agents and build a roster.

Then why didn't Payton fix the issues here in the 15 years he spent here?

If there is anything behind our injury issues beyond bad luck, having older players, and playing on field turf, and I'm not sure there is, it's issues with strength and conditioning and the failure to get guys stretched out before practice and games. And that only applies to soft tissue injuries. And we know that DA was not properly getting them warmed up which led to many of the soft tissue injuries.

As far as misdiagnosed injuries, there have been maybe 2 of those in the last 20 years or so. And that happens. Sometimes it take some time to get a diagnosis correct.

Finally, there is no indication that players, other than Breaux and MT, have any issues with the team on these issues and no indication that free agents avoid the Saints because of some perceived deficiency in the medical staff.
