Payton on being one of the least injured teams in the NFL

Is any one player more important to the organization? The same type of thinking let Mick assume Payton would be here forever. The head of a significant business needs to think objectively and long-term. Mick failed that test.

I didn't say that he passed the test. All I said is that it's bullshirt that Mickey stopped Sean from drafting Mahomes. Nobody could stop Sean from doing what he wanted in the draft or with the team. And Mickey wouldn't have even tried. If Sean was really all in on Mahomes, then he would have or at least should have traded up for him. He also shouldn't have gushed to Andy Reid about how good Mahomes was which likely influenced Reid's decision to trade up in front of the Saints to get Mahomes.

But yes, Loomis has no excuse for not at least trying to find a successor to Brees other than brigning in reclamation projects like Bridgewater and Winston. He had the opportunity to take Love, Jackson, and Hurts, or trade up for Mahomes, and didn't do it. Some of that is likely that Payton didn't want to use a pick on a QB when he kept thinking he was another player away from another Super Bowl, but Mickey should have done it anyway for the future of the franchise.
