Jordan Schultz: Bears Job is a Two-Horse Race Between Mike McCarthy and Ben Johnson

McCarthy hasn't worked here since the early 2000s and Glenn hasn't worked here in 3 years. It's a totally different team and situation. You have to meet with all these guys in person and talk over what their vision is for your roster and your team. It would be negligent to hire any coach without an in person interview.

They need to do a full set of interviews and only then make the decision. You don't rush this or you do what they did 3 years ago and end up going with Dennis Allen because you never really gave other coaches a chance.

And we have just as good of a chance getting a quality HC, maybe a better chance, if we go through a through and full process before making a hire. Truth is that often time the hot coaches aren't the ones that end up with success. That was certainly the case when we hired DA. Nobody would have predicted O'Connel as the gem of that HC class or Payton as the gem of his class.
That's a valid point, but you know why we hired the deer, that decision was made, and we went through the motions. We fired our coach mid-season, so the candidate dossiers should be mostly complete. I disagree with the interview part with Glenn because he was in our building; you probably have more intel on him than anyone. I can understand McCarty was 20 years ago. I've served on a few job search committees in my current job, and usually, an interview just confirms what's on paper between the person's CV (resume) and references. I'm not saying these guys need to be hired tomorrow; the process is not complicated, considering we knew we would be here three months ago.
