I agree that’s not a winning strategy, but I’m basing off the Saints history of drafting QB’s. They did have a chance at drafting a QB high in 2006, but still went the FA route. It worked out great as Brees ended up being a HOF QB and Matt Leinart was a bust, but my point remains that they don’t want to draft a QB high as it isn’t in their strategy.
And the Saints also have the ability to trade up in drafts to go get the guy they like and haven’t done it for a QB, but they have done it for other positions including RB. They also have had the chance at drafting QB’s in the first and second round without trading up. Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love, and Jalen Hurts all had a chance to be a Saint without trading up.
