I really don't understand why people can't see this. There was a time when McCarthy was extremely good. He constantly out coached good (playoff contending) opposing coaches. He hasn't done that in his last 7+ years coaching. It may even be longer but I got tired of looking back. Whenever he goes up against a playoff contending coach he gets out coached, and sometimes embarrassingly so.
Just think of the last 4 years. The Cowboys have been one of the most talented teams in the NFL. The entire nation used to laugh at their losses because the media would also hype them out, and the cowboys would come out and disappoint. It's become such a constant thing that we no longer laugh anymore. Going into this season, we all knew the Cowboys wouldn't make it past the divisional round of the playoffs at best. No one considered them a threat. And when they got embarassed did we all laugh? No. Its become expected. They very often lose big games usually because the opposing coach makes adjustments, and McCarthy ends up getting spanked.
Will we win in the season? Yes. Will we make the playoffs? Usually. Will we contend in the playoffs? Nope. Just like Dennis Allen made us similar to the Raiders, McCarthy will make us similar to the Cowboys.
If your a desperate fan because of the last 3 years, your willing to forego being a Superbowl contender just to be relevant, I get it. But I'd rather swing for the fence in hopes of getting a coach that can out-coach opposition and make it to the SuperBowl.
I'm not a fan of Weaver at all, but he's shown the ability to completely out coach opposition. I would take him over McCarthy.
