Same (I think) -- are "sleet" and "freezing rain" the exact same thing?

We're getting lightweight frozen pellets. Kind of like ice BBs. Waiting with bated breath for actual hexagonal flakes. Still, the BBs do build up on some surfaces.

No ice on the driveway or sidewalks yet.
Sleet and freezing rain are different.
Sleet is falling ice pellets. Freezing rain is liquid rain that freezes on surfaces... even roads if it's cold enough to do so.
To get freezing rain there needs to be a temperature inversion where the temperatures at the surface are colder than the layer of moisture above. That is a much more dangerous scenario as far as traveling is concerned.
