Saints planned to interview Mike McCarthy; McCarthy didn’t garner enough interest from Saints and will take a year off

Now we're getting somewhere. I've already discussed Reid, but let's discuss the 2 coaches you mentioned. Vermeil took over the Rams when he turned 61. Yes, he won a Super Bowl. Came back to the game to win the Super Bowl. He went on to coach his third team, the Chiefs at about 65. Still pretty decent, just got old and eventually retired despite having a winning record.

Parcells started coaching at 41 years old and eventually won 2 Super Bowls with the Giants. I think he was on his 4th team by the time he got to the Cowboys. He was around 62. He had a winning record there before he retired.

Rebuilding a team in your 60s just hasn't proven to be worthwhile for these coaches to see it through if they've won it all before already. Reid still had the Super Bowl drive when he got to Kansas City. After a certain point, the will to do it dissolves even when they're coming off of good seasons.

This is a terrible argument and doesn't have any legs to stand on.

Reid had two awful seasons after his son died in training camp. That is terribly traumatic. Prior to those two seasons he was still taking opposing coaches to school. He went to KC, with a fresh start and all of the drive came back to him.

Vermeil rarely ever led teams and got out coached. Its really just that simple.

Parcells was awful with the cowboys. Did they even have a .500 record? I recall them losing all the time and being one of the worst teams in the NFL. His last good team was with the Jets prior to the Cowboys. It's also the last time the Jets were worth a dang (Didn't he draft Aaron Glenn?).

When a coach starts getting out-coached by coaches who often go to the playoffs, its better to just stay away from them. That's where McCarthy is. He was once a good coach around 15 years ago. But the last 7 or so years he's been getting taken to school time and again whenever they played a playoff caliber team.
