Saban is a class by himself. In college.
The vast majority of college coaches from Wilkerson to Devine to Holtz to Saban to Meyer are failures. And usually epic failures.
That's largely true, but there are some notable exceptions like Jimmy Johnson and Bill Walsh. Even Barry Switzer won in Dallas with Jimmy's team. I'm skeptical of any college coach moving to the pros, but some guy have done it successfully. In fact, one of the top candidates this year, Kliff Kingsbury, made the move from college to the pros and was actually doing a good job until his last year got derailed by an injury to Murray. And now he's one of the hot candidates again.
