Ross Jackson explores a Carr trade to Giants [ESPN NFL Nation Giants reporter Jordan Raanan says Derek Carr could be a trade option for Giants]

I'm not a cap guy.
Would you know how much it would lower the cap for the 2025 season if he did get traded?
Not a ton. It works out pretty close in dead money this year, but clears it for next year.

If Carr STAYS and nothing is modified, his current cap number for us includes $30 mil base salary, $10 mil roster bonus and $11,458,000 in this years portion of his prorated bonus. For a total of $51,458,000 cap hit.

If he was CUT before March 17th, all of Carr's prorated bonuses would accelerate to 2025 which is $40,132,000. That would be dead cap. We would also be on the hook for his $10 million guaranteed salary. Leaving a dead cap of $50,132,000, but a savings of $1,326,000 against the 2025 cap and leaving nothing remaining for 2026. However, if he were to sign with another team, every dollar he makes would come back to us up to that $10 million because of offset language in his contract.

If he waived his no trade clause and was TRADED, we would still have to eat the entirety of his prorated bonuses, but his roster bonus and guaranteed salary would both move to the new team and the Saints would gain $11,326,000 in 2025 cap space and have the $40,132,000 in dead money.
