Ross Jackson explores a Carr trade to Giants [ESPN NFL Nation Giants reporter Jordan Raanan says Derek Carr could be a trade option for Giants]

Carr is going to be a $40-$50m cap hit no matter what this year, unless his contract is restructured.

They way it is right now is that you can either pay him his $30m salary, $10m roster bonus and take $11m of his prorated bonus this year and have a $50m cap hit OR you can cut him and still have a $50 cap hit because he has $40m in prorated bonuses and $10m in guaranteed salary. If you keep him, it makes it about $12m cheaper to cut next year because you'd be then taking on one year less of prorated bonus in dead cap. Admittedly, we have a bit more room to do so next year. But not if we have to restructure him to get under this year. But if you move him, you take the entire hit right now and would be clear in 2026 which is my preference.

I think our best hope is to find a trade partner that Carr wants to go to so that he will re-work his deal in a way that allows us to trade him without as bad of a dead cap hit and where he gets a new contract from his new team that pays him more money long term. But, I kind of doubt that team is out there. But let's hope the Giants do it.

Then again, Carr has shown that he will force a team to cut him or pay him so he may not be willing to go anywhere. Not that I blame him. We didn't have to offer him the contract that we did.
