That said, perhaps Loomis can go forward as the Saints' Chief Operating Officer -- essentially an
emeritus title -- and the team hire a Director of Football Operations. The new director wouldn't be called the "general manager" because it would advertise too direct of a "dismissal" of Loomis. Renaming the position and creating a new slot in the hierarchy for Loomis allows the team to apply the fig leaf of "reorganization".
