Enough With the HC Hand Wringing - McCarthy Is the Best Option for the Saints
I also don't see the point about the Saints were not "the most desirable."
There were 6 openings this cycle. Do you think the Saints were interested in Pete (West Coast 74 year old) Carroll? How about Brian Schottenheimer? No and No. Vrabel - Patriots were the only option. Don't you think the fact that the Raiders and the Cowboys hired who they did says something about the desirability of those teams? No other team wanted Pete Carroll or Brian Schottenheimer. Yet were supposed to think the Saints are "worse jobs" than those 2 teams? Including Dallas who is saddled with a massive contract for a mediocre and often injured QB (thanks to their ridiculous owner)? Dak's contract makes Carr's contract look like a bargain, and we can get rid Carr this year or next if we want to. Dallas is stuck with Dak.
Add in Glenn and his alma mater hire by the Jets (we are not second fiddle to that fire bombed organization with no QB and a nutty meddlesome owner that has not won anything in decades). Glenn chose that job for personal reasons; but with no QB and a meddling owner that job is not objectively better than the Saints HC job.
So we did not get 2 OCs (Johnson in Chicago) or Cohen the Bucs OC who is being hired by the Jags - 2 unprovens with no HC experience) and we are supposed to be down in the dumps when a SB winning HC with similar credentials to Sean Payton is still in play?
If Sean Payton came back tomorrow fans here would act like it was the second coming. But he is every bit the retread that McCarthy is. Sean won't get over the hump in Denver (because he's in the AFC West) but has made their team relevant again. A similar outcome for McCarthy in the NFC South will get you a few NFC South titles, playoff appearances and would end the stagnant offense boring football that has taken hold for several years (even the final years of Payton) Again, I don't understand the victim mentality here.
