With Two Minutes To Go...

...in the Saints/Eagles game in week three of this season, the Saints scored a touchdown to take the lead over the Eagles. At the two-minute warning, the Saints seemed poised to move to 3-0 while dropping the Eagles to 1-2.

Already during the game several questionable decisions by the Eagles' coaching staff was leading to online comments that Nick Sirianni was almost certainly going to be fired. Eagles management had overhauled Sirianni's staff in the offseason and he was on an extremely short leash.

Of course the Eagles scored a TD with minute left in the game to steal the win and now are headed back to the Superdome, this time to play in the Super Bowl while the Saints went on to lose seven straight games on their way to the team's worst season in two decades. Now Sirianni is on the short-list for coach of the year while Dennis Allen was fired midseason.

That's how fast things can change in the NFL...
I think one huge "breakthrough" play was when TE Dallas Goedert made that great 3rd down open-field.catch and just proceeded to run for like 60-70 yards down field where he was tackled close to the end zone (a mistake, in hindsight I believe, because it essentially allowed Philly to run down the clock while scoring the eventual GW-winning TD and leaving us no time to respond). Goedert had already had a great game that day but that play sealed our loss that day and it was a complete defensive lapse at the worst possible time.

Perhaps this is hindsight bias on my part, but I strongly believe that even if Philly loses that game and is 1-2, eventually their season gets back on track anyway albeit maybe it takes a few more hiccups here and there but considering Saquon Barkley just has had one of the greatest, most successful statistical seasons a NFL RB has enjoyed since AP did in Minnesota in 2012, that team is too talented, too well-led, and experienced to not re-write the ship. Maybe they go 11-6 or 12-5 but with Saquon leading the way regardless, they still find ways to win, even if it's in spite of Siriani and granted guys, a few of their wins this season have come in spite of some questionable in-game coaching decisions. And Eric Dickerson should seriously shut the hell up because if it werent for Eagles FO holding him out of their last game vs. Giants, he'd likely would've broken Dickerson's 40-year single-season rushing record as he was 102 yards away.

I still think its probable we start showing some serious problems albeit later in the season and unfortunately, that signifies we probably win 3-4 more games then we did this season and Loomis can show the FO doesn't have enough evidence or proof DA isn't the right guy to lead our team and he's retained for another potential God-awful season. If we had gone 8-9/9-8 this year, Dennis Allen still has his job making inept, woeful decisions as Saints HC on Airline Drive.
