Saints planned to interview Mike McCarthy; McCarthy didn’t garner enough interest from Saints and will take a year off

I agree. But I don't see anything credible saying that Loomis wants control over who is on the coaching staff and he has already let two coaches take new jobs including one lateral move by Hodges. Plus Loomis specifically said that the new HC will get to pick his staff and that he would not be forced to keep any coaches.

If there is an issue, I suspect it's that McCarthy wants full control over personnel decisions and Loomis doesn't want to give it to him and wants to do it the same way he did with Payton and DA where Loomis gives them what they want in most instances, but Loomis maintains final say. Maybe that's a mistake by Loomis and he should give McCarthy full control. But, I don't know enough about McCarthy's talent evaluation ability or his success rate in the past to know if it's the right call or not.

Regardless, I'm more excited by the prospect of Moore at this point and would prefer for them to swing for the fences with Moore.
I can understand wanting some of that control after looking at the last 5 years of Saints roster management. But until Gayle decides she's going to make a change what is being requested (or rumored to have been requested) from candidate(s) is simply not going to happen. A new coach is either going to work with Loomis or they aren't going to be the coach. And no, I am not calling for him to be fired. It's way too late for anything like that. I'm just pointing out the reality. Especially after Loomis' end of year press conference where he said they would be hiring a coach where there was alignment on the vision for the team. Which is a different thing from the FO facilitating the new coaches vision.
