I just looked at Bradyn Swinson’s tape and he looks solid athletically and with pass rush moves. (I don’t watch LSU games bc i don’t get college games in Japan)

I glossed over Mike Green initially bc I’m sick of the Saints drafting small school guys, but he is the most polished pass rusher in this class. His only fault is he lacks long arms.

We could really wait until the third round to draft a decent edge rusher.

My hope for this draft is to get one of 4 players at pick 9 or trade down. AND I hope the FO and Moore fall in love with JaXson Dart and pick him wherever necessary. If that means trading up in the second or bottom of first then I’m ok with that.

The other players I want are OL.

The 4 players at pick 9 in order are

1. Tetairoa McMillian or T-Mac WR AZ
2. Mason Graham DI Michigan
3. Tyler Warren TE Penn State
4. Walter Nolen DI Ole Miss

“Projections” say that Warren or Nolen would be a reach at 9 but their talent is undeniable and they could be huge difference makers.

Walter Nolen and Warren are likely to be available at 9 but if the staff aren’t as high on these guys i hope we trade down. My fear is that they pick an edge rusher like Mykel Williams who wasn’t very productive. A guy like him could turn out ok but like
I said there’s vslue at edge rusher into the 3rd-4th round.

Is JaXson Dart worth a first or high second? He can make all the throws and he fits Kellen Moore’s offense that incorporates RPOs and misdirection plays. And he has enough athleticism to make plays with his feet. He needs to work on his footwork (it’s not horrible) but most college QBs do. But he has poise and can make reads plus all the throws necessary. He doesn’t have a rocket arm but can make all the throws.

He also needs to work on taking snaps from under center but we could go with pistol and shotgun runs.

I can tell you as an Ole Miss fan and watching Dart the last three years, I wouldn't think about him til at least the 3rd Round. Yes, he can run, yes he is tough as nails, but he also has a verrry bad habit of trying to hit deep shots on what seems like every pass play. He locks in on his first receiver and if he isn't open it's time to take off and run. He's got a decent arm but not a cannon.

I've read on the OM message boards (so take this as you will) that that is pretty much all LK asked him to do, make 1 read. It's said by the guys that cover OM for 247Sports and on3.com that the film room will be where his draft position is decided. Can he explain to NFL coaches the progression of NFL pass plays from option 1 through the progression to the checkdown to the RB?

Which brings me to another thing. It drove us OM fans crazy that he would throw into double and triple coverage on a 30+ yard pass instead of hitting his TE (who on numerous occasions would be wide open by up to 5 yds) 6-8 yds downfield or checking down to his RB for a 2-5 yard gain. It's like a checkdown was his kryptonite.

Now, can these problems be coached out of him? Possibly. But Kiffin couldn't get him out of these bad habits (assuming he would want to) so I don't know if another coach can.

So 3rd round or later? Probably. Anything earlier than that would be a mistake, IMHO.
