What is the ceiling of any of the new head coaches, if Mickey Loomis is retained as GM

Yay, our first new fire Mickey Loomis thread of February.

The ceiling is the same thing that happened when Loomis was the GM with Payton as HC and the floor is a new GM in two or three years. There is no way to predict the results.

Loomis has many issues but his biggest strength and weakness is that he gives his HC what he wants. It's the reason from moves like Davenport and Carr. But, it's also the reason for moves like trading up for Kamara. So, if he gets the right HC, which he has done one time and failed to do another time, the ceiling is winning the Super Bowl. But, if he gets it wrong, the floor is Dennis Allen and this year.

Yeah, say what you want about Loomis not realizing when it was time to move on from DA. Say what you want about what it may have cost the Saints going into the season with a head coach who CLEARY didn't have what it takes to be a head coach. But as far as GM's go, he's the type of GM most fans should love.

1.) He listens to the coach and staff regarding personnel. As long as he hires people who know what they're doing, this is a good a thing. He's not getting in the way on the field like Jerry Jones does to the Cowboys or Bill O'brien did for the Texans.

2.) He's willing to spend money. There's plenty of fandoms wasting away with owners/GMs who only have excuses when it comes to the purse strings. If the coach wants something, he'll pay for it. He'll find a way. I know plenty of fans that wish their GMs had the pull Loomis has to spend money where it's needed. That's never been a problem under Loomis. The Steelers could be 1 player away and that player could be begging to playing in Pittsburgh, but if he cost too much, it's not happening. I remember those years when we all wanted the Saints to go get a type flight WR, it wasn't because Loomis wasn't willing. It was because Payton was convinced he didn't need to do it. See #1. He'll go get a player AND he'll spend to keep a player. Which brings me to #3.

3.) There's some fans that get to see their best players walk away to other teams year after year. They can't build talent because they're never retaining talent. He's a far cry from the Raiders in that department. The Saints do as good as job as any team in retaining their players ESPECIALLY if the coach wants to keep them in New Orleans.

I get the slack Loomis is catching right now. It was painfully obvious DA was horrible and he didn't budge, was forced to do it even. But that's behind the Saints now. In choosing Moore, he's shown me that he's still willing to push to win. I'm absolutely ecstatic that he decided to take the risk on a long term solution for the head coaching job than go with the MM stopgap solution. Going with Moore tells me that Loomis isn't settling for the quick, lazy path. He's looking at the long term despite the possibility it could be bumpier. As long as he has the right guy, Loomis can make it happen.
