Ultimately this is the same thing we were wanting Sean Payton to do when he took over as head coach. The Saints weren’t swimming in talent and there was no clear direction indicating what would work best for the players we had on hand.
We knew that Sean had to start over, and we as fans were willing to give him the time to do so. Of course a lot of the reason we were so accommodating as fans is because we didn’t have a real standard to live up to at the time. We also were ecstatic that we even had a team to cheer for after Katrina ravaged the city and its economy.
Payton caught lightning in a bottle with a handful of great drafts and free agents… and got the extra shot in the arm of having the rebirth game against the Falcons and an instant trip to the NCF Championship game. It was a whirlwind of excitement from the very start of his tenure.
I believe that Moore will not receive the same leeway as Sean got. The expectations will be higher along with the demands of the job. If Moore accepts the job, I just hope everyone gives him the time needed to work out his plan. We must not expect another miracle hiring like we had in 2006.
