It’s The Offseason: A Thread About Retiring Or Honoring Jersey Numbers

If I were to retire 5 numbers, they would (controversially) be:

  1. #9 Drew Brees: best player in Saints history.
  2. #8 Archie Manning: the first truly talented Saints player
  3. #34 Tony Galbreath  : a largely unrecognized fullback who was way ahead of his time and very productive.
  4. #57 Ricky Jackson: NFL HOFer. Second best player in Saints history.
  5. #77 Willie Roaf: Saints best all-time OT.
Arguments could be made for so many more players, but this is jmo - recognizing that Tony G. will be on few (if any) other lists. This is the reason that I like the ring of honor much better than retiring numbers. You're only restricted to the circle around the Dome.
34 has been on the shoulders of some Saints greats over the years! In addition to Galbreath, there were Ironhead and Ricky on offense, and Mike McKenzie on defense. I’m not opposed to Galbreath being the premier representative for the number.
