Ok I’ll probably get trashed for this but….
I tried to tell him that you would have to restructure almost the whole team to get cap compliant without restructuring DC and then we'd have NO $ to even sign our own FAs more less field a mildly competitive team. And if we try and cut those aging players next next yr we'll have a massive dead cap that will eat at most of the cap savings we get from releasing DC , AND we'd be paying for all those players we cut not being on the team AND have to replace them
