The Eagles were just in the SB without him, so the counter argument could be the team is good enough without him.

The voters probably felt the same way because Lamar was the close 2nd, not Barkley.

It's pretty much a QB award anyway so it's hard for a RB to win. He may have won had he been allowed to break the rushing record.
