Defense wins championships

I should have said the Jim Mora era. The Dome Patrol days were his best defenses, but he always had high ranked defenses with low ranked offenses.

The Saints didn't win a single playoff game in 4 tries with one of the dominant defenses at that time. The 49ers are why they never won the division, but they never played the 49ers in the playoffs.

The reason they couldn't win a single playoff game with those top level defenses is because there offenses were bottom level offenses.

Neither offense or defense alone wins championships. Having the best balance between offense, defense and special teams and a little good fortune are what wins championships.

Special teams was just as important to the Saints winning the Super Bowl as their offense and defense was.
Most people say the same things you are saying but it isn't correct...
While we didn't have the number 1 ranked O we had some pretty well ranked units... 1987 was the best year.
Number 2 in points & 14th in total yards.
We always had a good RB & a pretty good WR under Mora...
Our problem was the playoffs... Carl Smith just always called a horrible game!
Very, very predicable Offense!

I absolute agree with you that you have to have some balance but a dominate D with a capable O usually ends up with a blow out...
A dominate O with a capable D usually ends in a shoot-out!
