Ian Rapoport: Saints to make a decision on Taysom Hill; hard to imagine Hill returning [T.Hill is turning 35 w/ 18M cap hit & ACL recovery]

I think Saints fans especially need to stop being distracted by the noise. There’s too much parroting of paid actors’ opinions. When you’re deciding on something, take a second to let the swirling wind of noise dissipate, then look within. Report what you believe. Ok that’s my public service announcement. Carr didn’t struggle with KK’s offense at all. I think Carr needs to know if he’s still being considered as a long term solution, and if he is, I would expect he and Moore to hit the books together. If not, and if I were Carr, I’d take advantage of free agency this year and seek a trade. The Jets would be my first option. Followed by Pitt. However, Mickey must get something for him, like a 2nd round pick.

Carr is going to be 34 years old. He isn't anyone's long term solution at QB regardless of how good anyone thinks he is. And we know that Moore has concerns about our QB situation which means he's clearly not totally sold on Carr as the starter. So I don't really think it's just noise. Especially given how much Carr is to be paid this year. A decision does need to be made. But, I suspect that Carr will be here another year and then released next year given our cap situation. (Wouldn't be my choice, but I think that is what they will do.) And that kind of decision is going to be made with a lot of players this year because we have a new HC. New HCs generally want to remold the roster the way they want so some guys may be going that we see as important. At the same point, I think our cap situation limits any makeover of the roster which is probably why Mickey told Moore they would be patient and why this will be seen as a mulligan year.

As far trading Carr, he has a no trade clause so I think he would refuse any trade to force a cut if the Saints really want to get rid of him. Mostly because that's what he did with the Raiders.

But I do think Carr is in an odd situation because he's going to be 34 so if he is going to get another 3 year contract, instead of having to take 1 year deals, he may need to get that this year. He's likely not going to get that here, so maybe he would prefer to move on and get a 3 years deal this year? I doubt he gets a contract that long after this year.
