Ian Rapoport: Saints to make a decision on Taysom Hill; hard to imagine Hill returning [T.Hill is turning 35 w/ 18M cap hit & ACL recovery]

It's a little different in Taysom's case. It's not just what he physically does out on the field (there's nobody else that can throw, run, catch, AND block at the levels that TH can) it's also what he knows. He knows the assignments for EVERY skill position. That's why he's literally 1 of 1...like, ever.
How many times do I have to say that backups are not as good as the players they are backing up? There are other players who can pass, run and catch too. They just can't do it at the same level. That's why they would be a backup.

Taysom IS the backup at QB, RB, FB, TE, and receiver.
He's not the backup QB. The Saints started two rookies who both struggled without starting Hill at QB when he was healthy.

He doesn't have a backup, and he never will.
He doesn't, but he can. No backup is as good as the person they are backing up. This seems to stem from the "I want all pro quality backups at every spot" mentality. It's a Madden/fantasy football pipe dream. No team had all pro offensive or defensive players playing second string offense or defense.
