So you're saying that the Saints either commit to Carr as their starter for the next few years, or they take the hit now (meaning accept that 2025 will become an undeniable rebuilding year) and let Moore begin assembling his squad as he wishes beginning in 2026. I'm totally okay with the latter. Any other decision is simply thinking short term.
Frankly it seems that the biggest issue with the Saints moving back into relevancy are all the high dollar contracts on aging veterans who may not even be serviceable starters by the time coach Moore gets to hand pick the kind of young players he wants for his team in the next few drafts. Fans may not enjoy going into a 'total rebuild' season this year, but if our new coach is anything close to being the football guru that he's touted to be, he needs the time to make us champions again without all the handcuffs of keeping guys who may not fit his system.
The Saints obviously can't ship off every player this year whose contract is taking a huge bite out of the salary cap. But the best thing about having a new coaching staff is that they don't owe any of these players anything. There are no 'favorites' on the roster this year. If they don't fit (or can't adapt to) the new schemes, they could/should be among the first casualties of our crippling cap situation. I think the new coaches already understand this. The fans need to accept it as well.
I know that teams want fans to fall in love with their star players to add to the emotional attachment they feel. But there are times when we need to think more about 'the uniform' than the players wearing them. I really believe that Moore will find & develop new 'stars' for us to cheer for. As far as I'm concerned this needs to start sooner than later. It's time to rip off the bandage all at once and get this rebuild started!
