The Rams should have to pay those cap charges either way since they paid him the money in 2023. Usually the charges go against the team that spends the money. A new team would only have cap charges of $27m and $31m the next two years to cover the remaining salary and roster bonuses on his contract.
I was under the impression that while the option bonuses were guaranteed, they were paid year to year. Like something in between a signing bonus and a roster bonus. But now messing with the numbers it appears you're right. I need to understand the whole point of option bonuses because it's unclear how they differ from the other two. Thanks for the heads up.
