The drawback to the early June 1st cut is that the team doesn’t get cap relief until June 1. The Early cut was added in the 2012 CBA as a favor to the NFLPA and is not intended to be of any benefit to the team but only to the players. The players benefit is that it allows up to 64 players to hit free agent earlier when more money is available than there would be in June.
