They also drafted an ILB (Campbell), RB (Gibbs) and TE (LaPorta) in the first round early second round (edit). Those are 3 positions that some people swear you should never take “too early.”

Maybe the Lions trust their internal evaluations and are drafting BPA, rather than saying:

“By golly we’re gonna build a championship team by only picking certain positions early.”

I doubt it though.
