I like how Fangio will get into those penny (5-1) looks from his nickel personnel, he waits for the offense to show their hand before putting a fifth guy on the LOS. From what I’ve read, college teams are moving away from Tite fronts to even fronts because the Tite front is soft on the edges in the run game. Defenses can be manipulated by teams playing three wide receivers, the Packers abused the Rams in the run game in the playoffs a few years back (notable that Donald was out, and we don’t have Donald, so we would be vulnerable to a similar attack). The Rams had to adjust by bringing a safety into the box, and the natural consequence was a deep PA TD pass to Lazard.
The even 4-2-5 front with the edges out wide keeps the edges as force defenders and pass rushers, with the two DT’s playing gap and a half to limit inside runs. The edges stay out of conflict and can play fast.
