My real point though was why should we feel the need to pass on a clearly better talent based on position? Why is it always about filling a position on the roster than taking the better guy?

Because unless we're talking about an HOF-caliber talent at RB in the mold of Adrian Peterson or Barry Sanders (and I don't think Jeanty is worthy of that label), I wouldn't take a RB in the top 10. It's not a good way to build a team. The trenches are more important.
