Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract]
The QB situation here, in year 1 of a new HC, would either be a solve-it-now or solve-it-later situation.
In terms of pursuing a veteran: Great QBs don’t hit free agency. A good QB could change teams/systems and become a great one (we witnessed that from 2006-2020), but more often they tread water and flame out, maybe giving one good season in between.
In terms of drafting: We all tend to agree that this isn’t a strong or top-heavy QB class. Classes can be one or the other (2006 was top-heavy, 2016 was strong), usually aren’t both, and occasionally are neither. We also tend to agree that 2026 is where it’s at.
In the case of drafting, since I doubt they bring in an earnest FA, we’re either hoping a guy with high potential falls and they sprint to the podium, or that they wait til next year when the chances of getting a strong prospect increase. They can use this draft to build with other players who will fit what they hope the next quarterback can do, as well as strengthening the defense with quality guys to push the veterans.
