Saints to hire Bo Davis as defensive line coach

I mean they do have experienced NFL guys like Nuss and Staley to work with Moore. And some of the position coaches are long time NFL assistants. Although mostly on the offensive side of the ball. And I think the fact that the trend with the defensive position coaches are college coaches where as the offensive position coaches are guys with NFL experience makes sense in light of the fact that the offense is not really old but the defense is very old and will need to add a lot of very young talent very soon.

But, yes, I do think there is a mindset that you hire the smartest, most innovative guys that are the best at developing talent to coach your team. It's the reason you hire a guy like Moore in the first place instead of a very experienced coach like McCarthy. The differences between the NFL and college are getting much less significant theses days and the things that are different don't really fall on the position coaches. Those are more issues for Moore and the coordinators all of which are very experienced in the NFL. Moore and Nuss not only have coached in the NFL but have also recently for Moore, played in the NFL.
Yea, good point especially about the defense, being older, needing a youth infusion. Your second point is logical speculation as for the reason they hires KM over Mm.

Some may not like what I’m about to say, but it’s like an earworm that won’t go away.

I think they chose Kellen Moore because he is willing to abide by the “new deal”. The new Saints power structure. Gone are the days of the John Wayne head coach, the coach that makes all of the decisions and lives and dies behind them. Today’s Saints are run by committee. Jeff Ireland said what appealed to him about Kellen Moore is that KM views the head coaching job as a “collaborative” effort. (All of these young coaches will fall in line under the new deal). Ireland went on to say that it’s his job to oversee and maintain the culture of the locker room. (I thought that was the HC’s job). Ireland went on to say, basically, “we’ll run everything, and let the new kid, KM, run the scheme”. Is that why we hired KM? Because he’s young and dumb and he’ll abide by the new deal? I believe so, and I believe also this is the reason why Mike McCarthy wasn’t hired. Mike would’nt have liked the “new deal”. This isn’t a rant about Ireland or ML, no need to reply with ML hate, it’s more about this new structure. I just like the old style, where the coach has the power. In ML most recent interview, he’s talking specifically about player attributes, which to me sounds as odd as my wife walking into the room talking to me about which color spinner bait I’m to use this weekend in the bass tourney and why. Since when did Mickey become a talent evaluator ? IMO, the structure is the issue with this team, it has faulty I-BEAM’s and hairline cracks in the welds. I do not trust a $ GM to make football decisions. You don’t hire a roofer fix your AC. I say again, this isn’t a rant against ML. Why would ML ever hire a coach, that will supplant him (like another Sean Payton) and make him his lesser? He learned that lesson and wouldn’t do it again, and that’s why it isn’t his fault.
