Report: Saints 1 of 9 teams scheduled to formally meet with Boise St. RB Ashton Jeanty at NFL Combine

As you know, I have some reservations about taking Jeanty at #9. However, given the news yesterday that the team is still in win now mode, Jeanty or Warren would likely make a lot of sense if you are in win now mode. Most of the other options would be about the long term future unless Carter or Graham fell to #9, but it seems likely they won't and the Saints are going to sign some guys to play DT/NT and/or Edge/DE and will likely go get someone on the OL. In that scenario, Jeanty would make a lot of sense as a guy that can step in day one to try to compete.

I think for the long term, it would be better to build the rest of the team and then add a great young RB, but if win now is the plan, Jeanty makes sense. And maybe he ends up being part of the long term vision, but I do have some concerns about the pounding he took with all those carries he had this year.

Is there any data showing anything to warrant concern over college usage impacting a career?

I’ve never really heard of this ever being a concern from any of the so-called experts and former scout types, and surely Jeanty isn’t the first superstar collegiate back to see heavy usage throughout his career.
