Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract]

I know this is the Saints’ first foray into this deep sub-500 realm in quite some time, but teams just don’t operate like this the way people here seem to believe.

No one is going into a year intending to pick early in round 1 or go out of their way to make moves to assure it. It’s just not a thing.
Which is fine. You don't have to try and tank but you can absolutely not be delusional and try to force something that isn't reasonable.

Last offseason was a great example.

This whole “get massive cap space” + intentionally go after a high draft pick as a path to guaranteed riches thing is nonsense that teams internally just don’t operate by.
Nobody is asking to "get massive cap space" how about we just start with not being 40+ million over the cap year after year?

And many of the few teams that have gone down this misguided path and operated that way have seen that plan backfire and turn into a 10+ year project.
How is that any worse that what we are doing? I'd much rather try for greatness then whatever this year after year going nowhere we are currently doing is.
