Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract]

They seem pretty torn on Loomis decision to keep pushing the cap.

Yeah, I don't think they are fans of it. I'm just saying that they pointed out that Loomis is still mentioning that he is still trying to get the cap under control and that they are not where they want to be yet. They also mentioned that Loomis was still talking about being in a soft reset and that while they want to be more active than last year, they are going to be conscious of not hurting the future cap.

I'm not sure exactly what that means Loomis will do, but I suspect it means 2 or 3 mid-range free agents and then several lower priced guys that fit the system that Moore and Staley want to play. They specifically talked about Loomis wanting to make use of the $7 million over the past cap projections to improve the team.

Personally, I just want to get the cap back to where we fluctuate between $10 million under and even with the cap every year so that we have some flexibility to cut guys whose play does not match their costs and sing a few mid-level free agents to fill obvious holes. I don't think you build a team with big free agent signings.

But, to do that we have to get better at the draft or at least get better at developing the talent that we do draft. I'm at the point now where I'm not sure if the drafting is bad as much as we just didn't have the coaching staff to develop talent over the last few years.

And, if DA is as bad of a HC as we all think he was, I guess I have some hope that this is a better staff that can get better results with the same or hopefully a better roster.
