Saints to hire Bo Davis as defensive line coach

I’m thinking more along the lines of what will be our most common alignment. Also, if one or both edges stand up, with four guys on the LOS and two LB’s behind them, I would consider it a 4-2-5 alignment.

I agree, my main point is that all three coaches hired come from teams that played a lot of four man fronts last year. Beyond that, I found out today that Moore said a 4-2-5 alignment was likely.

Never said we had to use 4-3 ends, I’m talking about the alignment we will use. We can play lighter edges with run stuffing DT’s if we get the guys. We may be in 2-4-5 personnel, but the alignment will be 4-2-5.

Yeah, I think we will see some 2-4-5 and 3-3-5, but you are probably right that we will see more 4-2-5 alignment with run stuffing DTs to compensate for a lighter Edge on one side and/or having the DEs on the line standing up. I think Baker used Swinson most of the time as the light Edge with his hand on the ground, but I think he did sometimes have him standing up. And I will be excited to see some of those 240 to 245 Lbs. Edges finally put to use by the Saints.

I tend to think of the 4-2-5 with the Edges standing on the LoS as a 2-4-5 mostly due to the positions of the guys on the Edge being LBs and the fact that they do sometimes drop into coverage, but you may be right that it really should be considered a 4-2-5.
