Ross Tucker / Greg Cosell on QB's getting sacked
Okay, one last one just for some comparison.
Caleb Williams
83 sacks on 1099 attempts for a 7.55% sack rate
There's a insignificant difference between Caleb Williams' sack rate and Rattler's OK only sack rate. Cossell said in the video that Caleb Williams gets sacked a lot, so I wouldn't draft him if I were the Saints. I also wouldn't count on Rattler getting any better. He's on the team, so give him a chance to improve as a backup, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen. The same goes for Haener.
Sacks tend to be drive killers like offensive holding calls are. A 7% sack rate means that on average a QB is going to get sacked once per 2 to 3 drives. That creates a significant disadvantage for an offense team to overcome. And that's before factoring in that a percentage of those sacks leads to lost
fumbles.
EDIT: I totally got Caleb Williams and Cam Ward mixed up. I'll be back with Cam Ward's numbers.
Cam Ward
156 sacks on 2329 attempts for a 6.70% sack rate
Cam Ward is who Cosell said got sacked a lot. He said Sanders did too. I have a hunch that teams overlook the sacks, because of their athleticism. It seems that's a mistake.
Check out this QB's college sack stats:
60 sacks on 1936 attempts for a 3.10% sack rate
That's none other than Bo Nix. If I were the Saints I'd stay away from any QB with a higher sack rate until the 3rd round at the earliest, but I won't second guess them if they take one earlier. It's not an exact science.
