How to waste early draft picks:

Make the premise "We need to take a QB in the 3rd round" rather than "There's a QB we really like that we think will be there in the 3rd round." When you decide beforehand the position you'll take in an early round it's amazing how far you'll stretch your definition of "good enough" to fit whoever is left at that point because you get caught up in only comparing him to the others who are still left, rather than to all who were originally available at start of draft.
