Raiders shopping TE Michael Mayer.
There are some good datapoints.
He was a stud pass-catching tight end at Notre Dame.
He's 6'4"
I'm not finding major injuries for him in college. He played in all but one of 36 games in college, and started all but 4 his first season. He missed one game to a grade 2 groin strain.
In the pros, he had a toe injury late in 2023 which caused him to miss the last three games of the year.
He missed a month in 2024 due to personal reasons. Maybe that's mental/emotional or maybe it was because of a major family illness. We don't know. Brock Bowers dominated the TE room.
I'm so leery of doing any deals with the Raiders because of the past 3 years and now that Brady's there, but if he's mentally right and we really could get this guy for a 6 or a 7th round pick, then why not.
It's like NIL. Do you want to allocate your assets to rookies, or to young guys already with experience. Take the rookie, and the clock is at 0 on their first contract, Take a slightly older guy, and 2nd contract decision is closer.
