Underhill: I think everyone involved knows Carr cannot play this year at his current salary

I hope not as well, but I unfortunately think we have a restructure coming that means Carr is on our books for years to come, even if he isn't on our team. My reasoning:

Carr and his people are shrewd. Wouldn't allow Vegas to receive trade compensation, drug out the FA process between NO and NYJ, and also has stated very strongly in a recent interview that he won't be taking a pay cut.

Combine that with Loomis basically giving away any leverage we might have had by pretty much saying Carr's our guy in 2025. Based on these circumstances, if you're Derek Carr, why would you entertain a pay cut?
Two things
1) Carr had no incentive to take a trade from Vegas, he only had 2 years 50 million left on his deal, he was getting more than that as a free agent no matter where he signed. He is in a different scenario right now, he has 2 years 90 million left on his contract, there’s no team that will give him close to that, so it’s in his best interest to take a paycut down to a reasonable level that helps both sides.

2) Loomis made those statements but make no mistake about how smart he is because he left himself an out by saying they have some contract stuff to figure out. They could just as simply cut Derek and say they couldn’t work out the contract situation.
