Mickey Loomis’ GM duties

Can you name any players that the Saints wanted to sign or keep, but couldn't because of how they manage the cap?

I can't think of any players. If the Saints are able to sign and keep the players they want, then the way they manage the cap is not a problem.

The Saints haven't had a cap management problem the last few seasons. The problem the Saints have had is that Allen made bad decisions regarding who to get and keep, how to use players, how to coach and develop players, and how to keep players healthy.

If Moore does a better job in anyone of those areas, the team will get better even with the same cap management.
It's all about options. The Saints are hamstrung and many of their decisions are made for them as a result of what they have to do. Do you think they really wanted to keep Carr? Can you name the players the Saints didn't want but had to keep? Can you name players the Saints would have wanted to maybe trade for but couldn't because it wasn't possible due to our cap situation and contracts? With cap space any number of opportunities are at your fingertips. The Eagles do it all the time. Heck, there are players on this roster many of you want gone, but we can't get rid of because of their contracts. Doubling down and re-signing these old guys netted us nothing in Sean's last two years, and nothing since. I don't know the path to how we get well, but I know the path to staying the same. It's been showcased for us when we had a great coach and a not so great coach. There comes a time when you have to pick a new path. Loominomics isn't sustainable for any team year after year. If I'm the Texans, Eagles, etc., you bet I'm loading the wagon. When the window is closed and my team is depleted I'm not. Simple.
