Jets taking calls for WR Davante Adams……….. Adams expected to be released if no trade

I should have included this in my previous reply, so I am sorry for quoting you twice here, however I can't help but wonder what gives you the impression that this player is declining and getting injured more and more often.

He's missed three games in the past four seasons, all last year.

Last year, despite spending some time with a team with no QB, spending time with a new team getting acclimated, and also missing the three games I just pointed out, he still had 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Extrapolate that out to a have full 17 games, which is his norm, and that's 103 receptions for 1,290 yards and about 10 touchdowns, all in line with his career averages of 99 receptions for 1,228 yards and 11 touchdowns.

While I do acknowledge that he's likely to start tailing off soon, I still think it is disingenuous to call him a declined player with injury problems that way you've characterized him.

The fact that he missed three games in four seasons, all last year makes me think he is getting hurt more often recently.

I think you will just as likely get him in the season he does fall off than that he has one more good year in him.

But the point is that to sign him they would likely have to give him a 2 or 3 year deal for big money with void years added to the end to make it work with the cap this year. It think that's too far out to go on a declining player. If we are giving that kind of deal to a WR, and I don't think we should, we should give it an a little more to Tee Higgins.

And while Loomis indicated they want to be competitive this year, he also talked about being cap conscious. He said the same things last year when he spent very little in free agency and said they were in a soft reset. I don't think Adams fits into that plan.

If Adams comes relatively cheap on a one year deal, sure sign him. But if he wants a multi-year deal for big money, he's not the right player for this team. And, frankly, I don't think Adams is going to take a one year low value deal. If he's going to do that, he's going to do it for a team with a real shot at the Super Bowl. I could see him doing it for the Chargers or maybe San Francisco. Possibly the Rams, but I'm not sure he fits how they do things. Even Washington makes more sense for him on a short low value deal.

And again, if we are going to spend in free agency, it should be on the OL, DL, and TE because that is going to make a bigger impact on wins than the comparative drop off between Adams and other options at WR.
