How are you feeling about the Carr Restructure
The only thing that could have been better about the DC situation was if he would have taken a pay cut, but why should he? Why should he take a pay cut when from even before he took his 1st snap that team's fan base has spewed hate and insults toward him? Fans do all that to him and expect him to take less $ to play for your team. SMH
Let's take a look at some facts.
If we were to have post 6/1 cut DC ( like all of you want) we would have had to restructure most of the team , including the aging vets that need to get off the books like DD , Mathieu and AK. Making it so we would almost have to keep them even longer. Also we would have had to restructure players like Saunders and Sheppard and other players so that we would have had to keep them or pay them not to play.
That would have been just to get cap compliant. With no $ to sign our own FAs more less any upgrades. . Yes we would have gotten about 29mil back on 6/2 but by then our own FAs and any other good FAs would have already been signed. Plus we would not have been able to sign our draft class until 6/2 making it so they would not have been able to attend rookie mini camp putting them behind in their development and our coaching staff in their assessment of them.
If we didn't run with Rattler and Haener for the season then we would have to waste 6-10 mil on a cheap FA QB cutting into the savings we got from cutting DC 6/1
But let's say we do what a lot of you want we embrace the tank/throwaway season. We put Rattler in a position to play with no upgrades to the OL, WR, TE, RB except what we get in the draft and that's if we draft offensive upgrades. What do you think that will do for Rattler's development??
Any reasonable shot he had of becoming a good starter has greatly diminished by not putting him the best position to succeed that we could have.
Even moreso what msg does that send to the team? It says , we don't care about this season. So why should you? And how about the fans?? This " Ohh I'm fine with tanking " will not last long. I'd say about to the 2-7 mark of the season.
All of this so you can say " See we got rid of Carr this season" And even more funny is the reason some of you that worship at the " We are 70 mill under the cap" alter can be happy.
The best part is none of that is even close to a remote guarantee that it will bring success. Also going out and over spending on FAs has not proven to be the formula for success ( see the Jags)
What the FO has done is the best thing we could do right now. Restructuring DC and some of the guys that we plan on keeping for a while. I would expect to see Cam and Taysom to take pay cuts and we'll be well under the cap. We will be able to make moves on some players that we may not want to keep rather than being forced to keep like Saunders and Sheppard. We can move on from DD and Mathieu along with Cam next yr if that's what they want to do
We can sign some upgrades in FA rather than just bodies that are still available If we choose to move on from DC in 26 we will be in a better position to do so due to the cap going up and players coming off the books
