Underhill article: “Saints moves are telling us what they felt the real problem with the team was last season”

Here's the obvious disconnect between those who believe with a really good draft we can compete in 2025 and are optimistic going forward and those who question that we can and are not optimistic. Just how talented are we?

I raise again the questions of just how many blue-chip (top five at their position) and red-chip (top 10 at their position) players we have--especially players 28 or younger. And I just heard part of a podcast (which I usually do not listen to) with Jim Derry and Mike Detillier in which Detillier argues that the Saints have few "core" or foundation players under 29 and disagrees with the organization over how talented we are.

In talking about team talent, depth matters. In talking about a team's future beyond the upcoming season, young core players matter. I am paraphrasing Detillier, but he said on the podcast that in the NFC West, Tampa and Atlanta are clearly better and suggested that we are closer to being the fourth team in the division rather than the second team. I agree.
I don't think you are taking into consideration coaching. Every yr coaching makes a player that underperformed into 1 of those blue and red chip players. Take our DL for instance, Grantham was an abysmal DL coach. Just ask Cam. DA was an awful HC. We have a promising new HC and coaching staff that I think will make blue and red chip players out of some of these guys.

Also any real assessment of the team is almost impossible to do due to the injury situation we suffered last yr. Maybe was should do a tally of the blue and red chip players closer to the end of the season after CKM and his staff have time to mold them
