Myanmar Earthquake (MBS reporting from Bangkok)

Fear not, my SR brethren.. i am ok.. and no, ‘Bangkok Earthquake’ is not a metaphor for somehting else.. actually it occurred in neighboring Burma/Myanmar, but was crazy here in Bkk with buildings collapsing and total chaos.. i was chilling on my couch at 1:30pm today, Friday when my new condo building starting shaking and swaying .. i had not been drinking so, being an American, i thought terrorism.. in any case, as soon as my wall clock fell to the floor and busted into a million pieces, i grabbed my passport and phone and i hightailed it down the stairs and outside .. did not even have time to put on shoes, my feet have been burning all afternoon on the sidewalk outside .. until the building manager kindly brought me a pair of boots.. they were 3 or 4 sizes too small for my feet , but at least they weren’t burning anymore.. after a few hours they let us back upstairs to grab some belongings, so now im back down hanging in the lobby.. some pics from just after it happened .

Glad you're okay!!

We have a new doctor here at work who is from Rangoon, Burma. She used the old terms "Rangoon" and "Burma" as opposed to Yangon and Myanmar. I was going to ask her about her choice of words but I was...distracted. She's very attractive, and gave me her number to discuss one of our patients. Maybe this ends up in the dating thread... :hihi:

At any rate, not to threadjack but I wondered if you had some insight as to why she would use the older verbiage? I'd also welcome any cultural insights you may have.

She also mentioned that a major bridge was destroyed, and she feared it would take decades to rebuild due to the ongoing civil war. She has no desire to return until the war is over.
