In the first instance, the dome is NOT less than a mile. If you'd look at a map, you'd see that. It's about a mile and a quarter as the crow flies, which means that it's at least a mile and a half, or a 25 min walk. I've done it. And you have to get through a few undesirable areas on the way.

Scaled off a map, the Dome isn't even 3/4 of a mile from the foot of Bourbon in a straight line.

And if you want to avoid the "undesirable areas", walking down Poydras, hangin a left on Carondelet and going down to the corner of Bourbon and Canal is just a hair under a mile.

In other words, it's damn close.
