I got a service award from my company that allows me $1,500 towards any vacation me and my wife would like to take. Looking at a long weekend trip. Thursday - Monday. Could use some suggestions.
Had originally thought of a Vegas trip and the $1,500 would more or less cover the Flights and nice Hotel/casino for the trip but would still likely be a expensive trip when you consider all the dining, shows and gambling. A buddy of mine suggested a "all inclusive" resort trip. Anyone have any experience with these or can possibly suggest one? Thanks!

don't know, seems to be a lot of bad news with cruises lately.

I think when you look at the number of cruise ships departing various ports on any given day, the odds of you being on one that strands you in the middle of the ocean are pretty low.. Personally, though, I'd be more opposed to using the money for a cruise because of the fact that cruises to me seem like floating Petri dishes of germs from people that may be sick, and the fact that I'm not a big buffet guy and that seems to be how most of the meals are served.. Also how much time do they give u in each port, like 2 hrs? Seems rushed to me.. I just envision a lot of downsides to a cruise, from things that I've heard.

It's just me, but cruises really bug me. They fly under other countries' flags so they can skimp on safety and salaries. But even setting that aside, I personally hate the idea of going from place to place on a ship and never seeing much of the places I'm going to. So if I were going to Cozumel, I'd much rather fly to the Yucatán, get a quiet hotel on the beach far away from the Spring Break crowd of Cancún, drink Corona on the beach, and maybe take a couple of day trips to the Maya ruins.

So I think you need to specify what kind of vacation you're looking for. If you like the idea of not having to plan anything and just being provided a list of prepared stuff to do, that's totally fine, but that's very different from, say, using the $1,500 to fly to San Francisco, Chicago, Montreal, or Vancouver and doing stuff on your own.

Been on 5 cruises. Never got sick once, nor did anyone I was cruising with.

This sounds boring, and won't cost $1500, but the best vacation my wife and I have taken was camping. We spent a week in a camper on a lake with no TV, computer, and cell phone only when needed. It was the most relaxing week I've had in years. We just canoed, fished, and read.
