Oct. 23, 1994. The Saints are 2-5 and host NFC West rival L.A. Rams, who are 3-4.

As a very young boyish-looking Joe Buck tells us several times, this game has everything.

Most notably, Tyrone Hughes sets a return for most kick return yards in a single game. The Rams set a record for longest punt return kickoff at 103 yards. That comes on one of the most controversial calls ever.

First time I had seen the full video of this one. This was back when the words "blacked out locally" were common when it came to watching the Saints on TV. I remember the game, but only heard Tyrone Hughes' heroics on the radio. One of the best return guys in team history, albeit only for a little while. He should have been played on offense. That one's on Mora.

A few firsts and lasts from this one.....it was the first year of pro football on Fox. Joe Buck seemed a lot less annoying without Aikman and with a little weight in his face. What the heck happened, Joe? lol Also, it was the first year of the Everett Experiment. Lasts? It was the final seasons for four guys held over from Mora's better years -- Morten Andersen, Frank Warren, Sam Mills and Tommy Barnhardt.

This was one of maybe three or four games in three years of Everett that the offense produced what it was capable of producing. The dynamics of the game felt like the games of the Payton era -- attack through the air and get a big lead, then let the defense get just enough stops to keep it going. The two freak returns from the Rams, obviously, kept it close.
