2003, week 1: Buffalo 31 New England 0 (1 Viewer)

I'll never lose hope as long as we're not mathematically eliminated. Week 1 was disheartening, but I'll still be in front of the tv Sunday waiting for that W.

Yeah but the Saints coaching staff doesn't know what they're doing. They play all the wrong players because everyone on the bench should be starting. The season is over. Last year's revival of the defense after being awful in the first two games was a fluke. This team and its coaches are a bunch of has beens who can't win anything. They're not going to make any changes or adjustments even after watching the tape from last week. Just gonna trot out the same exact game plan with the same exact players and probably want to lose the game too.

/Sarcasm

They have the greatest coach of all time (arguably) and a team that is notorious for fantastic adjustments in game and throughout the season. our coach is well... another story

Is well...what? One of the greatest offensive minds in the history of the game? A coach that took the Saints to two NFC Championships and won a SB, something no other coach in their history could do? A team that rebounded from 0-2 last year who almost went to the SB? Come on man, being mad at coach for a bad defensive game plan is one thing, acting like he’s some scrub coach is just petty and asinine

We dont have to be a top 10 defense, look at the patriots they have sucked on D the last few years, but we need our Offense to be on their A game and we were last week. We will be a middle of the pack D and will get to the playoffs and make a run. We have the talent on D, we are just not in form yet. By mid season this 1st week will be something to laugh about, unless we fall one game away from home field.

The Pats are never a good analogy. They break every model you try to apply to them.

Especially when, as here, there are plenty of 0-1 Saints seasons under the current regime to look at.

Which is more likely to occur after Payton's team has a slow start - Super Bowl win or mediocre season or something in between? History (Saints history, not Pats history) suggests mediocrity, though anything is possible, as we saw last year.

And their season was no fluke. They went 14-2 for the regular season before taking the postseason all the way to the Lombardi Trophy. So it seems that Week 1 embarrassment lit a fire in those boys.

I hope we have a similar flame! :9:
