Free Agent Pickups:
DT Corey Williams (our biggest splash) – Packers
~ He could give us the penetration we need from the middle to free up Grant and Smith.
CB Drayton Florence – Chargers
~ Definitely a good #2 CB and an immediate upgrade over anyone on our roster not named Mike McKenzie.
WR Andre’ Davis – Texans
~ Not a great WR, probably more of a #3 or 4, but a great return man and will probably be allowed to leave since the Texans drafted Jacoby Jones last year.
LB Landon Johnson – Bengals
~ I think he could come in and replace Shanle, who would be great depth. He is versatile enough to play MLB, but I think we get another guy for that spot. Had 109 tackles last year.
“2007 PARTICIPATION: Started every game for the second straight year, and has played in every game (65, including postseason) of his pro career ... Opened Games 1-8 at WLB, but was moved to starting MLB for Games 9-16 after injuries depleted that position.”

LB Victor Hobson – Jets
~ Could come in at the MLB position and immediately make our D better. Has done good as a backup and could turn into a great starter in my opinion. Had 62 tackles last year.
FS Eugene Wilson – Patriots
~ I’m not sure if NE will let both him and Asante leave, but I hope we get this guy. A good coverage FS that would limit the big plays that have plagued us.
QB Cleo Lemon – Dolphins
~ I think Palko will be given every chance possible to take the #2 spot, but Lemon wouldn’t be a bad idea. If I’m not mistaken, he was with Carmichael in San Diego, so that would be a possible connection to the team.
2008 NFL Draft:
Round 1 CB Mike Jenkins – South Florida
~ Between Jenkins, Florence, and Young, the future of our secondary would look bright. I think drafting a corner in round 1 would go a long way towards improving our defense.
Round 2 DT Frank Okam – Texas
~ Big guy who also has the ability to penetrate. Could rotate with Hollis to keep our interior DL fresh.
Round 3 TE Kellen Davis – Michigan State
~ It’s about time we finally draft a TE, and I like Davis a lot. I heard Pat Kirwan on Sirius speaking highly of him at the Senior Bowl and said that he has also shown the ability to possibly be a good situational pass rusher.
Round 4 LB Vince Hall – Virginia Tech
~ Could sit behind Hobson for a couple years before taking over the middle of the Defense.
Round 5 WR Lavelle Hawkins – California
~ Had a good Senior Bowl week. Could develop into a good slot receiver and might possibly be able to return some kicks.
Round 6 DE Jeremy Thompson – Wake Forest
~ A bit of a smaller DE at 264 pounds, but could potentially be the rush specialist we need.
Round 7 C Adam Spieker – Missouri
~ Injects some youth into the center of the OL and could develop over time.
Summary:
People will say that we will never sign and draft this many defensive players. I, however, think that Sean and Mickey understand that our defense basically needs a complete overhaul (barring a few players) and that they will make a majority of our offseason moves on the defensive side of the ball. I left out our resignings because they will be apparent on my projected roster.
