2011 Car - Body Rust? (1 Viewer)

Is anyone familiar with diagnosing if a car has rust coming through the paint? My wife has a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and it has a bunch of little orangish/greenish specks all over. I tried claybaring it, but I can't get the spots off. I am starting to think it may be rust coming through the paint. Anyone ever have this issue before? I was going to wax the car today, but if I can't get these spots off, I don't want to waste my time waxing it in the case I bring it to the dealership. The shop isn't open on the weekend, so I'd have to take the day off to bring it during the week.

The car has been washed every 2-3 weeks since purchase with a carnauba based wash and wax.

I'd take to "stealership" ASAP. And document everything along the way, meticulously.

I've heard of pin-drop rust spots developing on chrome bumpers of brand new vehicles before, but not on the body. The bumpers were just replaced.

Remember this: If the stealership tries to give you the run-around, then call the corporate number. They hate when you do that

It could be anything. That car could have been parked near a dealers bodyshop, and had overspray from the cut-in area hit it. It could be overspray from someone painting a building nearby with a power sprayer, etc.

I would take it back to the dealer, You may be able to get it covered under warranty.

A friend of mine and I both have F-150s. He works in a bodyshop, and I recently asked him to help me wash, claybar/buff and wax my truck, and we noticed that first my truck, then his had these small reddish brownish spots in the paint. It was harder to see on mine since its a goldish color, very close to the Saints gold, bit his is white. He had no idea what it was either. We eventually got it off the paint, but it was weird. It looked a little like rust spots. It couldnt be rust though, it was on the hood, and F150 hoods are aluminum.

But at least wait until you get a letter from the dealer about the extraordinary demand for used 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sports. You don't want to pass that deal up.

Yeah but the vehicles are transported from the factories via trains to the distribution yards. That's where the term rail dust comes from. Most times cars are covered with plastic sheeting to protect the surface from this very thing.

Our dealership had an issue with that from the mulch alongside the rows of cars last year. If that's what it is, they should remove it for you.

They should be willing to have it professionally buffed if it is something on the surface of the paint. I highly doubt it is pinhole rust since it is relatively new and carmakers are very sensitive to rust issues because nothing is worse for long term image than a rusty vehicle.

Rust would likely bubble the paint before before you see it.
Those aluminum hoods won't rust but the can corrode just as easily.
